Most teams don’t need “AI magic.”
They need fewer late-night pacing surprises, fewer QA mistakes, and faster cross-platform reporting — without losing control of budgets.
To make this practical, we asked Christoph Kruse (VP Marketing at MINT ) five short questions about agentic AI for ad ops / UA: what it actually is, where it helps today, what inputs it needs, what “good output” looks like, and the pitfalls teams should avoid.

1. In one sentence, how would you explain “agentic AI” for ad ops / UA to a marketer who hasn’t used it yet?
Agentic AI is a system of specialized AI agents, grounded in your enterprise data and embedded in your advertising workflows, that coordinates execution and delivers auditable recommendations and actions under human oversight.
2. What are 2–3 ad ops / UA tasks where AI agents can already help the most today? (And why those?)
AI agents shine when the work is operational, repeatable, and constant.
In ad ops, a lot of effort goes into checking, monitoring, and stitching context together across platforms. None of that is strategic work, yet it is what keeps campaigns stable. Agents add value because they can run those checks continuously, pull the relevant data from multiple systems, and surface issues early — with enough context for a human to act quickly.
On top of that, they bring two broad benefits across almost any workflow: speed and precision. They process information and execute tasks far faster than a human ever could, and they work without typical manual slip-ups.
With that in mind, there are three areas where agents are already genuinely useful today:
1) Pacing and in-flight monitoring Teams monitor spend, delivery, CPA, frequency, and performance shifts across platforms, then try to understand what changed and what to do next. Agents help by watching those signals, flagging anomalies early, and pulling the “why” into one view — so optimizations happen faster and with fewer missed issues.
2) Trafficking readiness and QA Many mistakes start as small setup issues: naming and taxonomy inconsistencies, missing UTMs, tracking misconfigurations, creative spec mismatches, or fields that don’t align across systems. Agents help because checks are clear, repetitive, and easy to standardize — reducing rework during flight and preventing reporting headaches later.
3) Cross-platform rollups and reporting preparation Reporting consumes time because teams pull data from multiple sources, reconcile definitions, and rewrite the story every week. Agents can prepare a consistent, decision-ready summary, build the presentation, and send it to stakeholders automatically.

3. What basic inputs or tools does an agent typically need to be useful in those tasks?
At the simplest level, an agent needs three things to be genuinely useful:
Clear KPIs
Clear guardrails
Access to the right data
First, teams need to define what “good” means. That is the KPI layer: the metrics you care about and the thresholds that trigger action — whether that is CPA, ROAS, pacing versus plan, frequency, or a delivery target.
Second, the agent needs guardrails so it knows how far it can go: spend limits, daily caps, channel constraints, approval thresholds, or rules around audiences and brand safety.
Third, agents get better the more relevant data they can work with. The strongest setup combines your historical context and benchmarks with live platform data, so the agent can connect your learnings with what is happening right now.

4. What does a “good result” from an agent look like — what should it deliver so a team can act on it confidently?
A good result from an agent is a recommendation that is grounded in your specific context and informed by proven best practices.
It should take what it already knows about your business, campaign goals, customer segments, and past learnings, combine that with today’s live data, and add an external view of what is currently working well across the market.
In practice, it:
flags what is off vs. your usual patterns
explains a likely driver
ties it back to relevant precedent
For example: last Black Friday, a different channel delivered incremental volume more efficiently, and right now budget is flowing into a channel that has historically underperformed for this segment — so there is an opportunity to rebalance.
Then it gives a concrete recommendation and makes it easy to act:
what to change
why it makes sense
what to expect if you do it
The key point remains human control. The agent handles parts of the operational work and brings the right context to the surface, while the team stays in the lead and makes the final call.
5. What’s one common pitfall teams run into when using agents in ad ops/UA — and one simple tip to avoid it?
Pitfall #1: “One-off pilots” Teams try to pilot agents on a one-off project because it feels contained. In practice, one-off work often comes with thin context and limited data access. That usually leads to outputs that feel generic — and the pilot fails to reflect what agents can do when connected to how you actually operate.
Tip: Start with a small, repeatable task in a low-risk environment — and make sure the agent can draw on the data you already have. Naming conventions are a great example: repetitive, easy to validate quickly, and improves operational consistency while your team stays in control.
Pitfall #2: Hallucinations (especially when budgets are involved) The risk rises as soon as budgets come into play.
Fix: Governance and oversight built into the system — especially around spend-moving decisions:
clear approval guidelines
traceable decision logs
a second set of checks (multi-agent setups can help, e.g., a “supervisor agent” as a second set of eyes)
